Aleksandar Radosavljevic was one of the great success stories of Slovenia’s 2010 FIFA World Cup™ qualifying campaign. Though a year older than Robert Koren, his regular partner in central midfield, the 30-year-old has only recently forced his way back into the Slovenia squad after a lengthy period in the international wilderness.<\/P>
In fact, Radosavljevic’s period in exile lasted for over six years, with a starting place against Czech Republic on 15 October 2008 his first appearance for the national team since featuring in 5-0 drubbing in an UEFA European Championship qualifier against France on 12 October 2002. The midfielder undoubtedly made the most of this unexpected reprieve, establishing himself in Kek’s line-up with a series of assured performances that complemented those of Koren.<\/P>
A tidy passer with good positional sense, Radosavljevic went on to appear in seven of Slovenia’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers, including every minute of the triumphant two-legged play-off against Russia. Andrej Komac will still hope to displace him in the side before South Africa 2010 gets underway, but Radosavljevic seems to have made the defensive midfield role his own for the time being and, having spent so long out of the national team, will be desperate to hold on to his place.<\/P>
This season has also witnessed the midfielder change clubs, with the financial problems of his previous employers, Russia’s Tom Tomsk, contributing to his January move to Larissa in the Greek Super League.
