A highly competent player for the Socceroos in the middle of the park, Valeri is well versed in the art of defensive midfield. With a good footballing brain Valeri is adept at shutting down attacks, winning the ball and distributing. One of the few Socceroos in modern times to come from the nation’s capital, Canberra. Carl’s father Walter was a well regarded player at national league level.

An outstanding performance at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2001 saw Valeri earn a contract at Italian giants Inter Milan. He failed to make the first-team at the San Siro and eventually moved to Grosseto where he helped the club gain promotion to Serie B. After five years Valeri joined fellow Serie B club Sassuolo in January.

A key figure in Australia’s team at the Athens Olympics, Valeri made his senior debut in March 2007 in a friendly international away to China. He subsequently made his home debut three months later against Uruguay in Sydney and the 25-year-old has been a constant figure in Australia squads since.

Another player who has rarely put a foot wrong while donning the green and gold. Valeri is a like-for-like swap for Vince Grella; appropriately enough given the latter’s extensive experience in Italy.
","2278C81F60D7F1ECF170F6DDE4B76865":"Ternana","5BB437CAF240E475":"70kg","D39E7C23A464F86D":"1
;
