Profile<\/STRONG>

Martin Stranzl hails from Burgenland in Austria's far east but has never played professional club football in his homeland. The sturdy central defender has had plenty of playing time on Austrian soil for his country, however, in the countdown to UEFA EURO 2008, and is one of the most experienced internationals in Josef Hickersberger's team.

Moved to Germany at 17, joining TSV 1860 München; first international cap at 19 – against Sweden (played as midfielder).

Halting, injury-strewn progress at 1860 München; sixth season ended in relegation from Bundesliga; left to join VfB Stuttgart where he had two UEFA Cup campaigns, reaching Round of 16 each time.

Scored first international goals in 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign – against Azerbaijan in Vienna and Wales in Cardiff.

Moved to FC Spartak Moskva in 2006; twice runner-up in Russian Premier-Liga, once runner-up in Russian Cup, and one UEFA Champions League campaign that ended in group phase.
