A late addition to Turkey's UEFA EURO 2008 squad, Emre Güngör was confirmed in the party after right-back Gökhan Gönül, the man expected to monitor Cristiano Ronaldo in the opening game against Portugal, was ruled out with a foot injury. The 23-year-old was uncapped at the time of his call-up.

Istanbul-born but has played most of his football in the Turkish capital with MKE Ankaragücü.

Joined Ankaragücü from Bak\u0131rköyspor in 2001, making Süper Lig debut at 17.

Spent 2003\/04 on loan at Türk Telekomspor in second division before returning to Ankaragücü and making such rapid progress that he was made club captain at 23.
