Djamel Belmadi has twice been named Algerian Footballer of the Year and has played for Paris St Germain, Martigues, Cannes, Celta Vigo and most recently Al Ittihad. The 29-year-old midfielder played for Saints on pre-season tour in Scotland and did enough to earn a one-month deal as a free agent.
That was made permanent at the start of the season as the African play-maker settled in to life on the south coast with his first goal for the Club in the 2-0 victory over Crewe on August 27.
Ironically, Belmadi's last appearance in England had been against the Saints before he joined them as a substitute for Manchester City. He made two starts - against Fulham and Arsenal - and six appearances from the bench during his loan spell from Marseille.
Then manager, Kevin Keegan liked the way he played but conceded he could not afford another free spirit in a side which at the time contained Eyal Berkovic and Ali Bernabia.
Belmadi's quick feet and quick thinking have added some much needed creativity to Saints' midfield although his early impact in the 2005\/6 campaign was diluted by a thigh injury.
However he did enough in the closing weeks to earn a new one-year deal but is now sidelined until the New Year with a knee injury which requires surgery.<\/P>","BFE43781BF2A8A9E3EADFCC3CC1AF971":"4","C497EA9EA23AEEDCAF9AD5DB76B19323":"","776ABA890334BE6B3BFB7EFC5D96F457":"Qatar","DC9241C78561BCD0":"Djamel Belmadi","9085EF0B5B518612":"71kg","2B1A74B80063A830":"","7DECC0B2C7F83A01B36F8F67FA49C295":"2018-8-2","C377723034B3384C":"581","4ADA354908754559E53E3FA7C013DA37":"999","97B41D9FF6388BC00A2A0187557FA1F5":"","F4AE865DDB6B58D9":"Djamel Belmadi","2299C98649C2E7A9E5F02ED855F2A9FC":"Qatar","3D0CAED1D8820318D15DE014CB00C4C7":"France,Algeria","38FCF119BEE99893":"Algeria","97C471949E1057BEF55B60029EC94B5E":"0","C99F63DD4716E450533B17E1817DB7B9":"1976-3-25","97C471949E1057BED9C5A535F14529AAF72A852D44EC1724":"1","031D6804B38B16BF":"10583","5E5612EA3A8A833D":"175cm","e_index":6};
