The pair know each other well, with Scaloni making his Albiceleste<\/I> debut under Pekerman back at the FIFA World Youth Championship Malaysia 1997. On that occasion, the midfielder hit the opening goal in his side’s quarter-final victory over arch rivals Brazil.

A product of the Newell’s Old Boys youth system, Scaloni spent a large chunk of his career at La Liga outfit Deportivo La Coruna, before joining English side West Ham United in January’s transfer window.
