He subsequently embarked on a managerial career.<BR><BR><STRONG>Playing career<BR><\/STRONG>Emery was a youth graduate of Real Sociedad, but never really broke into the first team (aged 24, he appeared in five La Liga matches, scoring against Albacete Balompi&#233;) and, after that, resumed his career mostly in the second level.<BR><BR>He retired with Lorca Deportiva CF at the age of 32, after one season in Segunda Divisi&#243;n B.<BR><BR><STRONG>Coaching career<BR>Lorca and Almer&#237;a<BR><\/STRONG>As he was seriously injured in the knee while at Lorca in the 2004&#8211;05 season, Emery was offered the vacant manager spot by the club president, and immediately helped the club achieve promotion to the second division for the first time in its history, while beating top level side M&#225;laga CF in the Spanish Cup.<BR><BR><STRONG>Valencia<BR>Beginnings<BR><\/STRONG>In his first season with the Che side, Emery led it to a sixth place-finish, with the subsequent UEFA Europa League qualification, in spite of the club&#39;s serious financial problems. He led his team to the round of 32 in the UEFA Cup.<BR><BR><STRONG>After Villa and Silva<BR><\/STRONG>The 2010&#8211;11 season started without David Villa and David Silva, sold to FC Barcelona and Manchester City respectively.
