National team

His Denmark debut came in Croatia in March 1997, and although he missed out on the 1998 FIFA World Cup, he played at UEFA EURO 2000? and the 2002 World Cup finals, keeping up a scoring rate of almost a goal every two internationals.

UEFA EURO 2004? qualifying

Tomasson scored Denmark's first three qualifying goals - two in the 2-2 draw in Norway and the opener in the 2-0 home victory against Luxembourg. The forward also scored in his next outing against Romania and took his tally to five in the corresponding fixture in Copenhagen.

Club

Tomasson's senior career began in the Netherlands with SC Heerenveen in 1994\/95. After he had hit 37 league goals in 78 games spanning three seasons, English side Newcastle United FC paid €3.9m for his services in 1997.

1998: Following a disappointing year in England, where he spent much of his time on the wing, Tomasson returned to the Eredivisie with Feyenoord. He also returned to form: winning the title in 1998\/99 and never failing to make double figures in goals in any of his four seasons in Rotterdam. In 2001\/02, he helped his team reach the UEFA Cup final and scored the winner in a 3-2 triumph against BV Borussia Dortmund. By that point, he had already agreed a free transfer move to AC Milan.

2002\/03: Used mostly as a substitute by Milan, Tomasson's key moment was his last-minute winner against AFC Ajax in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, which kept alive a campaign that ended in victory in Manchester.
