Born in France, he plays for the Spain national team. He previously played for Basconia, Athletic Bilbao and Manchester City.

French by birth, Laporte won 51 caps for the country at youth international levels, and was called up to the senior team twice but remained uncapped. In 2021, after receiving Spanish citizenship despite having no family connection to Spain (his great-grandparents were from the French Basque region), and approval from FIFA to switch national teams, Laporte was named in Spain's squad for UEFA Euro 2020. He would then go on to represent the nation at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague described Laporte as a "centre-back who can play from the back and is strong", adding that "he is certainly a powerful defender". He is also known for his passing ability.","0FCC2F07B9D0EBFD":"Al Nassr FC","DA5E7C1A0F1CB829A66A16651D2472FD":"France,Spain","0C852134AA40B2DD":"1","C6E00DEB351621C4":"281853","9EBD0BFF9766B31DEF99430639A2F292":"Manchester City F.C.","2B5572269355781B0007104B7181FA88":"1994-5-27","30A86FC0880FF75E":"189cm","A16D5E6475634BB1C2248B183B7E41495B218039EB2EF0A3":"1","0A9B0394F31973591937C38F2F471911":"Manchester City F.C.,Athletic Bilbao,CD Basconia,Athletic Bilbao B,Athletic Bilbao U19","A16D5E6475634BB126EF698FB3550B8C":"20000000.00","8DC362CCE065919BCF40467C0DE6A7E8":"
