Alexandru Chipciu is a Romanian footballer who plays as a forward for Romanian side Steaua Bucuresti and the Romania national team.

Chipciu started his football career in 2001 at the youth squad of CF Braila and Sporting Pitesti, from 2004 to 2006. After that he moved to FC Brasov. At the age of just 18 he made the breakthrough in the first squad, scoring 4 goals in his first year with FC Brasov. But, after the teams pretentions grew, wanting the promotion to the Liga I, he got less play time. For the first half of the 2008–09 season he was loaned out to Liga II side Forex Brasov. In the second half of the season he went to Liga III side CF Braila to gain experience. Back at now, Liga I side, FC Brasov, Chipciu again got little playing time in the first season. In the 2010–11 season he exploded, being one of the best players of FC Brasov and attracting the attention of Romanian giants Steaua Bucuresti and Dinamo Bucuresti. He eventually choose to remain at FC Brasov, signing a new contract that will keep him at the team until 2015. On 21 December 2011, Steaua Bucuresti signed him for a transfer fee of €1,2m. The player penned a five-year contract with the club. In the autumn of 2012 Chipciu helped Steaua Bucharest qualify from the UEFA Europa League group stage, after defeating teams like VfB Stuttgart, Molde FK and FC Copenhagen. Subsequently Steaua defeated AFC Ajax on penalty shoot-outs, before losing in the last 16 against Chelsea FC with 3–2 on aggregate. On May 10, 2013, in the one of the last matches of the 2012–13 season, Alexandru Chipciu suffered an injury playing against Dinamo Bucharest and he was subsequently sidelined for 5 months after a fractured tibia. Two weeks later Chipciu received a winners medal for the 2012–13 Liga I, after Steaua defeated FC Brasov in the last match of the season. This was his first championship title. Chipciu made his debut for the Romania U-17 side in a match against Serbia U-17 on 29 March 2006. He also played for Romania U-19. He made his debut for the senior team in 2011 in a match against San Marino. Chipciu scored his first senior international goal in a friendly away match against Greece on 15 November 2011.
